Sunday, June 11, 2006 china trip i just realized that i never really wrote anything about my trip when i came back... so i'll write some now! i'm kinda procrastinating from doing work... but i have time still =) so i went to china from may5-24. i went with my family and we were on an english tour cuz me and my sister don't really know very much chinese so my mom figured it would be easier than translating everything herself.. we went to... a bunch of cities. the most we spent in one city was 3 or 4 nites.. so we went to a lot of places! umm we went to bejing first.. then xi'an and after that we went to chongquin? where we got on a boat and went on a cruise on the yangtze river, then shanghai, guilin and lastly hong kong =) oh yeah so this was my first REAL vacation.. we used to go camping during the summer for a few nites but this was the first time i actually travelled... and the first time i've been on a plane that i can remember.. it was a lil scary at first.. like takeoffs and landings were a bit weird... and the feeling of being in a metal box up in the sky was a bit weird too but after flying from city to city i'm used to flying and its actually kinda fun =) we met a lot of kool people who were also in our tour and they were all from canada! yay! =) they were a lot of fun to hang out with and they made everything fun... even dinners =) at dinners and meals in general we would all try to sit together cuz we usually had about 4 tables for the whole tour and so sometimes we got seperated but usually we'd all run to sit together =) there were a few odd people in the tour too but thats kinda expected i guess =) hehe a few times one of the weird couples came to sit with us during dinner and alllll of us would kinda be looking at each other trying not to laugh... those were interesting dinners =) but they were all interesting =) we saw a lot of things in every city.. i think my favourite thing was the great wall. we climbed all of the... left side hehe i don't remember if its north east west or south.. no clue.. the tour guide just suggested we try climbing the left side cuz it might be easier or something.. i forget =) so our merry little group all climbed together =) haha it was fun and hard to do.. the stairs are so uneven! haha but it was a lot of fun.. it was rainy that day and we were all icky and sticky and tired... and that nite we went to see a bejing opera show.. and we all fell asleep =) my other favourite site was in xi'an when we went to see the terracotta soldiers... they were really kool.. but the only thing was that it was so dark inside that it was hard to see anything and it was hard to take pictures too... i think there were 3 pits.. but once you saw one you've seen them all pretty much =) i think we all had more fun in the terracotta replica factory cuz we spent a long time there and we all bought some terracotta soldiers to bring home =) after xi'an we split with the rest of the group to go on our yangtze cruise which made me kinda sad cuz that meant we wouldn't get to see our friends anymore... and then on the cruise some of the people from our tour were there but they were the weird people and it didn't seem as fun when we had to eat and stuff... but when we were on our own it was still fun.. the cruise was really pretty and i took a ton of pictures... in bejing, shanghai and hong kong we met up with relatives and a lot of the people on my dad's side before we'd never met before so that was kinda kool... in shanghai we had to go to a banquet thing and there were a lot of relatives there that i've never met or met when i was a baby so it doesn't count... and i met some second cousins and stuff but we didn't talk cuz they don't speak english =) in hong kong i met my uncles that i hadn't seen in a while.. actually one of my uncles i don't think i've seen since i left hong kong... but yeah it was fun cuz my uncles understood some english and so did my cousins so we could actually talk a little bit... i didn't actually do very much shopping at all on my trip... like some touristy things like terracotta soldiers and postcards and stuff =) but not much else really =) no clothes in hong kong.. actually in hong kong i barely bought anything which was surprising =) i bought a chinese dress in shanghai.. its pretty =) i dunno what i'd ever wear it for tho =) and i bought a tshirt in xi'an just cuz it had a cute panda on it =) i bought a lot of friendlies tho =) they're the mascots for the olympics in bejing in 2008 and they are so cute =) the first nite we were in bejing we had dinner with my dad's uncle and our second cousin? i forget how she's related to us.. she gave us a bowl and spoon thing with friendlies on them.. and at first me and my sister were like friendlies? what are these things?? and then after a while we started to like them.. and these two other girls ashley and erin who we sorta hung out with liked them too and we were friendlies obsessed =) whe we were leaving bejing erin and ashley came on the plane so late even tho they were walking right behind us.. but they stopped to buy friendlies so they got on the plane late =) me and my sister ended up buying fake friendlies things at some airport.. i forget which one... and then we ended up buying a set of real friendlies keychains and i got a friendlies bag... i want another one now =) and my sister got a set of plush friendlies ( i want to get a friendly.. just one stuffed animal) and my mom got a set of friendlies coins =) hehehe yeah.. friendlies obsessed =) they're really cute tho... my favourite ones are the red one and the black one.. and i like the green one too but the red one and black one are my favourites =) and i was stoobud cuz i thought i would be able to find lots in hk... but i didn't know they wouldnt have ANY friendlies stuff there! made me sad... but my uncle is going to china i think in december so maybe i can get him to get me some friendlies things! yay! =) umm so yeah =) i had a lot of fun on my trip.. i'm hoping to go on another trip next summer somewhere... where i dunno =) but now i wanna travel! we took a lot of pictures in china.. i have some up on my facebook if anybody wants to see hehe... my pictures still hafta be developed cuz i'm still using film =) i tried to be artsy in a lot of the pictures but i dunno how they turned out hehe i hope they're okie! okie... off to go do some work now.. or look at my pictures again cuz i miss the trip =) 0_o ( 8:22 PM ) ~ punchyfruit ~ |
